What you can do

  • Recommendation for 20' GP, 40' GP, 40' HC, reefer containers and trucks (EU, US, Korea)
  • OOG cargo: open top and flat rack with overwidth / overheight, several OOG pieces on one flat rack
  • Road weight limit per container (default 22 t, adjustable)
  • Stacking rules per cargo, “all 2 layers”, “no stacking” and bridge stacking
  • Load checks: centre of gravity (CTU Code), flat rack concentrated load, lashing rule of thumb
  • Paste from Excel or e-mail text, number your cargo, save plans
  • Clear reasons why a container is recommended – or why your own selection does not fit
  • Report for e-mail, PDF and image sharing with 3D view

Frequently asked questions

How many pallets fit in a 40ft container?

Typically 24–25 Euro pallets (120 × 80 cm) or 20–21 industrial pallets (120 × 100 cm) in one layer in a 40' GP; a 20' GP takes about 11 Euro pallets. The exact number depends on pallet height, stacking and weight – plan4cargo calculates it for your cargo.

Is plan4cargo free?

Yes, the load planner is free to use in your browser.

Why is there a 22 t limit per container?

For road haulage the whole truck must stay within the legal gross weight (in Germany usually 40 t, 44 t in combined transport). In practice about 22 t of cargo per container is a common planning limit. You can change the value or switch to “best fit (space)”.

Can it plan out-of-gauge (OOG) cargo?

Yes. In the OOG tab plan4cargo chooses open tops or flat racks, shows overwidth and overheight, and checks end-wall lashing space, concentrated load and centre of gravity.
